Overview

Atypical for its location in the heart of a tourist bay in Hainan, and for its size — the largest Duty Free Shops in the world — the Haitang Bay Mall is distinguished by its spectacular architecture. Each part of the building was designed to invite the user to explore the center. The porch creates a vast reception space composed of three arches, 35 m in height, and an imposing 50 m entrance

The roof, whose design is inspired by the Begonia flower, is composed of 30,000 metal and glass panels covering both buildings, a technical feat that gives the whole complex its coherence. An opening above the central courtyard maximizes the influx of natural light into the lower ground floor.

The central exterior space gives uniformity to the entire structure and facilitates the overall reading of the building. The interior spaces are organized around four distinct atriums that link the three shopping levels and each with its own identity, connecting the three levels of activities in a fluid, unrestrained visitor journey.
